Sex in the Stone Age National Geographic Specials

In the Altai Mountains of Siberia, a Russian archaeological team toils away at a routine dig site. The caves of this dig site have long been established as the ancient home of Neanderthals and homo sapiens. With the chance DNA testing of a pinky-bone, the commonness of this remote dig site explodes- the DNA in the pinky-bone is unlike anything geneticists had ever seen before. In tandem, the Russian Academy of Sciences & the Max Planck Institute of Evolutionary Science have discovered a whole new sub-species of human. Neanderthals and homo sapiens weren't alone in the Altai Mountains of Siberia-there was a third people. Could this third kind have contributed to our modern DNA?

Raising Titanic History

April 15, 1912: Titanic sinks, 1500 people die. Who is to blame? Was it human error? Bad design? Weak steel? For 100 years, definitive answers were impossible. Now, a new expedition attempts what has never been done: create a complete map of the entire wreck site. Every artifact... every piece of wreckage... located, measured, and imaged. Massive pieces of the ship are seen for the first time, mysterious and extraordinary. Using this data, a team of experts will conduct the first ever state-of-the-art forensic investigation of the world's most famous maritime disaster. When revealed in 2012 these findings will shock the world - and forever change the way we view Titanic...

Fabric of the Cosmos: Multiverse NOVA

Hard as it is to swallow, cutting.edge theories are suggesting that our universe may not be the only universe. Instead, it may be just one of an infinite number of universes making up a "Multiverse." In this show, noted physicist Brian Greene takes us on a tour of this brave new theory at the frontier of physics, explaining why some scientists believe it's true and showing what some of these alternate realities might be like.

Some universes might be almost indistinguishable from our own; others may contain variations of all of us, where we exist but with different families, careers, and life stories. In still others, reality may be so radically different from ours as to be unrecognizable. In this fourth installment of FABRIC OF THE COSMOS, Brian Greene reveals why this radical new picture of the cosmos is getting serious attention from scientists. It won't be easy to prove, but if it's right, our understanding of space, time, and our place in the universe will never be the same.

Building the Discovery Channel Telescope Discovery

Lone Wolf is working with Discovery Studios and Science Channel on a six-year project documenting the building of the Discovery Channel Telescope at Lowell Observatory in Arizona. The film will air shortly after "first light,"now scheduled for Summer, 2011. When the Discovery Channel Telescope is finished, it will be the fifth largest in the United States, with unique characteristics enabling it to see a wide area in deep detail. Creating a five-story tall telescope with a 14-foot-wide primary mirror is an incredibly complex and intricate task. Seeing faint objects at the edge of our solar system, including dangerous Near Earth Objects, demands incredibly precise engineering specifications. An error of a few nanometers (just a few molecules) could mean greatly reduced performance.

HORSE SENSE FOR SOLDIERS WITH MONTY ROBERTS Discovery Military
Premiered September 19th, 2010

Horse whisperer, Monty Roberts takes on the challenge of rehabilitating three Iraq War veterans suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. Over the course of a week, the veterans are put through a series of challenging trust exercises with rescued horses at Monty's training facility in Solvang, California. Gradually, with patience and wisdom gained by a lifetime of adversity, Monty helps them understand the power of gentleness while instilling in them a new sense of purpose.

"The impressive, unique work that Monty Roberts has pioneered, using untrained horses as a therapeutic tool for veterans who are trying to work through anger and depression is absolutely inspiring. We are honored that Monty and the veterans allowed us to document their deeply personal stories. All too often we forget about the after effects of combat and, accordingly, since Military Channel is the only destination dedicated to honoring the U.S. armed forces, we are proud to showcase this special as part of our ongoing salute to our returning troops."

CITY UNDER THE SEA National Geographic
Premiered November 11th, 2010

The oceans cover 70 percent of our planet. Although science fiction writers and ordinary mortals have longed dreamed of life under the sea, no humans have ever lived there permanently. But with climate change and environmental degradation looming on land can we afford to leave such a vast space unoccupied? What if we gave ourselves 10 years to create an undersea colony where 100 families could live? How would we do it? Where would we go? In this program we develop a step-by-step approach for setting up such an undersea colony. We meet experts who believe such a bold undertaking is possible and are already developing the technology that could make it a reality.

THE WORLD'S OLDEST CHILD National Geographic
Premiering June 16th, 2011

In the spring of 2009, the skull and upper torso of an ancient child were discovered buried in the soil of a Moroccan cave. The archeological team couldn't even tell if it was a boy or girl, though they opted to call it 'Bouchra', a feminine name meaning "good news." But that did little to answer the questions that swirled around 'her'. How long ago did she live? What did she look like? Was she one of us? Few answers were to be found there in the cave, but one thing was clear: this child was special. Not only because ancient human bones are rare, not only because an near-complete child's skull is an almost unique discovery, (1) but because she hails from a period of our history that we know almost nothing about. (2) It may be that Bouchra will shed light on one of the last great mysteries of our evolution: the development of modern thinking. Yet with little more than the few pieces of her skeleton and the dirt she was buried in to study, it remains to be seen what stories she will tell...

Star Clock B.C National Geographic Naked Science
Premiered January 20th, 2011

In 1900, a group of Greek sponge divers happened upon a two thousand year old ship wreck at the bottom of the Aegean Sea that would re-write history. Hidden among a rich cache of bronze and marble statues, glassware and amphorae was a mechanism the size of a shoe box. Inside the mechanism were mathematical gears and pointers. The Ancient Greeks were known to be philosophers, poets, and mathematicians but there was nothing in the archeological record to suggest that they were also technicians capable of creating something so complex. It has taken researchers 100 years to understand what the mechanism does. Lone Wolf Documentary Group follows two professional model makers - Chris Weisbart and Maris Ensing - as they try to understand the ancient mechanism by building one themselves. Interviews with experts from London to New York and Seattle help solve the mystery of this phenomenal artifact.

Historian Brendon Baillod and his team of elite technical wreck divers are seeking answers both on land and underwater. It's a risky proposition, involving forensic investigations 300' below the surface and miles from the nearest hospital. Can the team find answers to century-old questions, and solve two of the Great Lakes' most enduring mysteries?
